The beginning of your FA coaching courses journey

 

The entry level for most beginner coaches is the FA Level 1 Award in Coaching Football (1st4Sport Level 1 Award in Coaching Football) which will enable you to begin paid or voluntary coaching work in football.

 

The 1st4sport Level 1 Award in Coaching Football is awarded by 1st4sport Qualifications and has been developed in partnership with The Football Association – the national governing body for the sport – and its education arm, FA Learning.

 

The 1st4sport Level 1 Award in Coaching Football is regulated at Level 1 on the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF).

 

FA Coaching Courses Criteria – 1st4sport Level 1 Award in Coaching Football

 

The 1st4sport Level 1 Award in Coaching Football (QCF) is designed for adults (over 16 years of age) with little or no experience in coaching football and offers an opportunity for aspiring football coaches to support the development of football by contributing to the administration, management and/or coaching in school or community-based junior football clubs.

 

It will provide you with an introduction to offering the principles/practice of safe, ethical and effective management and coaching of football to adults and young people, as an assistant, normally under the supervision of a Level 2 qualified coach.

 

Students in further or higher education studying sports-related qualifications might also wish to pursue this vocational qualification to support their interest in the sport, as a rung on the coaching ladder.

FA Coaching Courses Criteria – 1st4sport Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Football

 

The FA Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Football (1st4Sport Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Football) will enable you to develop your knowledge of how to effectively plan, conduct and evaluate football coaching sessions, to coach without supervision, but normally as part of an organisation or club’s overarching coaching programme. Once you have successfully gained the Level 2 Certificate you will have the pre-requisite to complete the coaching courses for the UEFA 'B' Licence.

 

The 1st4sport Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Football (QCF) is designed for adults (over 16 years of age) with some experience in coaching football and who have ideally completed the 1st4sport Level 1 Award in Coaching Football.

 

The qualification aims to provide you with an introduction to the processes and principles of coaching the sport to adults and children. This Certificate offers an opportunity for potential football coaches to be supported in developing the knowledge of how to effectively plan, conduct and evaluate football coaching sessions, enabling them to coach without supervision, but normally as part of an organisation or club’s overarching coaching programme.

 

Students in further or higher education studying sports-related qualifications might also wish to pursue this vocational qualification to support their interest in the sport, as a rung on the coaching ladder.

FA Coaching Courses - UEFA 'B' Licence

 

The UEFA 'B' Licence is for coaches who have an ongoing involvement in the coaching of a team playing 11v11 football and aspiring coaches who have completed the level 2 certificate and are looking to continue expanding their football coaching training.

 

The FA coaching courses UEFA 'B' Licence will cover the theory behind the philosophy of coaching, how players learn, coaching styles and communication, player analysis, psychological factors associated with player performance, player development, planning coaching sessions, coaching session evaluation, and much more...

 

The practical element of the FA coaching courses UEFA 'B' Licence will include in-depth learning and assessment of the principles of attacking and defending, midfield play, counter attacking, set plays and goalkeeping.

FA Coaching Courses - UEFA 'A' Licence

 

For coaches who are, or who intend to be working in 11v11 football within the international, professional, semi-professional and elite girls or youth programmes.

 

The UEFA 'A' Licence is the required qualification for any serious football coaches who have ambition to coach at the highest level.

 

The following theoretical aspects will be included in the FA Coaching Courses UEFA 'A' Licence course curriculum:

- Problem-solving exercises
- Performance and match analysis
- Strategies and tactics
- Principles and systems of play
- Communication skills
- Player development
- Psychology – how players learn, what motivates them
- Planning for performance

 

The FA coaching courses UEFA 'A' Licence course also includes a residential part to the training as follows:

 

Part 1 of the residential course runs over 13 days, during which time candidates will be filmed delivering a practical session, as well as participating in the theory and practical sessions.

 

Part 2 – new Format:

Candidates who started Part 1 in 2010 will return for an eight day Part 2 course, and will again be filmed delivering one practical session, as well as participating in the remaining theory and practical syllabus. Final assessment will take place after Part 2, and candidates will be sent details of assessment opportunities.

 

Part 2 – old Format:

Candidates who took Part 1 between 2006 and 2009 will return for a 13-day Part 2 course, during which they will complete the UEFA A Licence syllabus and conduct their two remaining assessed sessions. This will be the last ‘old format’ Part 2 course.

 

The content exceeds the minimum requirements specified under UEFA guidelines (120 guided learning hours), as it is designed specifically to meet the needs of coaches working in England.

FA Coaching Courses - UEFA 'Pro' Licence

The FA UEFA pro licence is the mandatory qualification for all first team managers who wish to work in the premier league. The course is designed to prepare managers and coaches to work at the elite level of the game in a managerial capacity. (international, premier league, Football league and the FA Women’s super league).
